Pajarito picks up 2 feet in areasPajarito Ski Area was reporting 18 to 24 inches of new snow out of Monday night’s storm and more is forecast for today.However, Pajarito is still keeping quiet about a possible opening date.No opening date has been set at the ski area, although preparations on the mountain are underway. Currently, snow cats on the mountain are doing “track-packing” — running the machines over what’s already fallen to help the base hold up and allow new falling snow to stick better.Actual trail grooming was not yet taking place as of 10 a.m. today.Pajarito’s base as of this morning was listed as 17 to 22 inches.The ski area will announce in the Monitor and on its website (www.skipaja-rito.com) an official opening day as soon as it has been determined.Elsewhere in the area, Taos Ski Valley reported at 6 a.m. that 10 inches of new snow had fallen in the previous 24 hours and 48 inches had fallen in the previous five days. It was expecting more snow today.Taos is scheduled to open for the season Friday.Sipapu, meanwhile, has already opened for the season. It currently has 10 of its 41 trails open.At 5:30 a.m., Sipapu reported receiving an additional seven inches of snow in the previous 24 hours.
