Southwest Nordic skiers have been fortunate to have events to participate in during this snow-less winter season, including the Leadville Loppet in Leadville, Colorado and Chamalauf, held near Pagosa Springs, Colorado, both held late last month.

Fourteen skiers headed to Leadville Loppet for their hot blueberry soup, gorgeous Mineral Belt Trail views and costumed events. SWNSC had participants in every distance of the event offered.

In the 1K, SWN Ski Kids dominated finishing in the top six spots.

The club had only two racers in the 5K, but with maximum impact as Mila Moseley won the race overall, while Phoebe Reid took fifth overall and second place in the category of girls 10 and under.

Jean Dewart placed second in her category in the 10k classic. Amber Dagel was the overall winner of the 22K classic race while her husband, Daryl Dagel earned second place and Kevin Reid was third in their respective categories in the same event.

Clay Moseley and Denny Newell tackled the challenging but scenic 44K freestyle race, which used more of the beautiful Mineral Belt Trail and skied to second and third respectively in their category.

After Leadville Loppet, Southwest Nordic headed up to Wolf Creek Ski Area for the Chamalauf event.

The event was considered a consolation because it was put on to make up for the fact that the Chama Chile Ski Classic and Durango Pine Needle Langlauf events had to be cancelled this winter due to low snow conditions.

While Wolf Creek is a known downhill destination, it also has almost 10K of groomed cross-country ski trails, starting at their Alberta Lift.

Wolf Creek delivered, with plenty of fresh snow the evening before the event and cold winter temperatures on the morning of the event Six SWN Ski Kids braved the cold and wind and skied the 3K race.

Mila Moseley won the 3K overall, while Levi and Luke Gibson were first and second in the boys 8-andunder category.
Aamon Atchley accidentally skied a slightly different course and Quanah Moseley did not finish.

Adult skiers Siobhan Niklasson and Clay Moseley participated in the 12K freestyle race while Paul Gooris skied the 6k race.
