The council’s vote on proceeding with the planned skateboard park in front of Mesa Public Library was a necessary action. While it was good to see those who were concerned with the project speaking up and offering options, the option they offered – the parking lot south of the Community Building – was not a viable option.Like it or not – and most people do like it – parking is a necessary evil. If the alternative plan to look at that site had moved forward, all parking would have gone away and that just could not happen. So you are left with the library site.Granted, that is not the perfect location but where is the perfect site here? Our land is limited and no matter where the facility is built there will be problems. As Councilor Robert Gibson said, the character of the community changes and will continue to do so. We are sure there were people opposed to the location of the library when it was being built. Now, it is considered a gem. We can hope the skateboard park will be the same.A lot of work has gone into this and the county is committed to proceed with this project. The vote to proceed was a good one.We do have one problem, however – one that we have had before.
