Skate park on agenda

-A A +A
By Katy Korkos

The county council will meet in a work session Tuesday in Council Chambers in the Community Building at 475 20th St. The location of a skate park in Los Alamos is one of three agenda items on council’s business agenda, along with a valuation plan presented by Los Alamos County Assessor Joann Johnson, and the request for council to set March 25, 2008, to discuss an appeal of a Planning and Zoning Commission decision to deny the Donaldson subdivision. Also on the agenda is a public hearing on an application for a beer and wine license for Bandelier Grill. The location of a proposed skate park has been discussed at council meetings held on June 26 and Oct. 30, 2007, as well as at the Jan. 8 meeting, where council directed staff to issue a new request for qualifications for a location between the Community Building and Trinity Drive, near the parking lot south of the building. Council had approved a location in front of Mesa Public Library at the June meeting, but stepped back from that approval after receiving a petition with signatures of more than 300 people opposed to the location. The work sessions are typically held in White Rock Town Hall, but due to public interest in the skate park, the meeting was moved to council chambers where it can be televised and streamed via the Internet. The public is welcome to attend, and a period is set aside at both the beginning and end of the meeting for public comment on items not on the agenda.
