Siblings to host joint art show

Los Alamos artist Secundino Sandoval and his brother and fellow artist, Abad, have more ties than just being siblings; they are also connected through art.

Secundino started making his art creations at age 5; a Mickey Mouse comic book and some crayons sparked his interest in the field. Abad began making doodles as a kid, which grew into watercolors.

They both capture the landscapes and sites of New Mexico in their watercolors.

Secundino said Abad’s work is very impressionistic while his own paintings are more realistic.

Secundino began to do art professionally after retiring from Los Alamos National Laboratory 36 years ago. “Painting,” he said. “has been my life.”

He never studied art while attending college so he learned the hard way but still described it as “exciting.”

According to Mesa Public Library press release, Secundino is nationally recognized and a winner of many art awards. He is also a distinguished signature member of the Watercolor Honor Society

Abad retired from LANL in 2001. While one career was over, another began. Although he shows his work in Santa Fe, Abad described his painting as more of a hobby than a profession.
