Registered sex offender Victor William Loretto, 35, of Jemez Pueblo was arrested at Ashley Pond Monday morning and charged with Lewd Behavior, two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer and Public Intoxication.

Police dispatch received a call at about 11 a.m. from a young girl who reported that Loretto was following her and three other boys and girls, ranging in age from 10-17, and saying inappropriate things to them.

Sgt. Jason Wardlow, Cpl. Larry Baker and Ofc. Ben Hinrichs responded to the scene and located Loretto under the gazebo at the pond.

Det. Shari Mills explained that Loretto appeared severely intoxicated and exuded a strong odor of alcohol. He had been making sexual advances to both the boys and girls, she said.

“He spit on Sgt. Wardlow and poked Ofc. Hinrichs in the face,” she said. “He was very combative throughout the entire arrest – screaming and cussing.”

Loretto is listed as a convicted sex offender on the New Mexico Department of Public Safety Sex Offender Registry, which states he was convicted of Aggravated Sexual Abuse on June 25, 1993, in Bernalillo.

Loretto is being held without bond in the Los Alamos County jail.
