Scout museum concept inches forward

-A A +A

After four meetings and much behind-the-scenes work, it appears the dream to make Los Alamos the headquarters for a regional museum highlighting scouting is slowly inching toward reality.

“I heard some really good ideas and it sounds like they’re taking some great first steps,” said Brad Gasway, father of Cade Gasway, a Boy Scout in Los Alamos’ troop 122. “It’s also very ambitious ... maybe if we take some small steps, we can go from there.”

Cade, who has achieved the rank of “Star,” the third highest ranking in scouting, agreed, adding, “We need more people to show up to the meetings, too.”

While attendance at the meetings has been fairly sparse, the most recent meeting included Ken Thomas, Relf Price and Sandra Jenkins, all active members in scouting.

One of the museum’s chief supporters is Vernon Kerr, who has been involved in scouting since he was a Cub Scout in a troop out of Gallup. He also helped organize Cub Scout Pack 326 in White Rock in 1963, was an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 326 and was also a post advisor for Explorer Post 326.
