Award > LAHS junior is involved in a variety of activities

Caroline Schramm, a junior at Los Alamos High School, was recently honored as Rotary Student of the Month for February.
Schramm is the daughter of Janet and Garry Schramm and the sister of Christopher, Kaitlin, Kurt, Cory and Carson.
The Rotary Club of Los Alamos selects one student each month of the school year to honor as a Student of the Month. In addition to high school seniors, high school juniors are now eligible for the recognition.
Students are nominated by their teachers and chosen on the basis of their academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and, in particular, their service to the community.
Schramm, who is currently trying to coordinate a service project to collect school supplies for under-privileged students in the community, has also volunteered to read to children in local elementary school classrooms with her Los Alamos Youth Leadership group, and assisted in this year’s Los Alamos County Science Fair.
As a member of Natural Helpers, a national program, Schramm was selected by her peers as someone with a natural skill for helping others. She is a member of the National Honor Society, as well as an active member of LAYL, a youth program to help high school students gain leadership skills by moving outside their normal comfort levels. Students also participate in outdoor team challenges, plan and implement projects that benefit the community and contribute to different groups in need.
During both her freshman and sophomore years of high school, Schramm served as vice president of her LAHS Student Council class. After going to the state championship with the Los Alamos girls soccer team, she received a varsity letter for the sport.
In addition to her parents, LAHS AP Psychology teacher Lynn Ovaska, whom Schramm selected as the teacher who has had the most positive influence on her life, joined Schramm at the awards ceremony.
As a part of Rotary International, the oldest and largest service organization in the world with over 1.2 million members, the Rotary Club of Los Alamos gratefully acknowledges the contributions Students of the Month and their families make to our community, a principle reflected in the organization’s motto, “Service Above Self.”
