The Los Alamos Board of Education will meet in a special session at 5:30 p.m. today in the Speech Theater at Los Alamos High School. The only item on the agenda is the high school bus loop.
The public is invited to attend the meeting and comment on plans for a new bus loop at LAHS. The Board will use this opportunity to inform the public on the latest proposal to construct a bus loop at the high school.
Pros and cons of two different proposals — one of which is a new access off Diamond Drive and the other involves a reconfiguration of the Smith lot.
At the Feb. 14 meeting, Los Alamos resident Mary Sandoval expressed her concern over a proposed bus loop in front of the high school (the reconfiguration of the Smith lot option). She said it would take up the “lovely green space” currently available to students. She said the space serves a variety of purposes, to include a spot for students to eat lunch, and is also used by the cross country team.
“It represents our new high school,” she said. “I can’t tell you how valuable it is. That green space is important.”
Sandoval asked board members to reconsider the proposed bus lane, however, LAPS Board President Melanie McKinley told her that she would have to ask a board member to officially place the item on a future meeting agenda. After the public comment period, Board Vice President Kevin Honnell agreed to place the item on a future agenda for discussion. Residents will get the chance to weigh in on the topic today.
