Los Alamos Public Schools Administration is one step closer to having a permanent home.
During Tuesday night’s school board meeting, members voted 3-0 on a purchase price for the building at 2075 Trinity Dr. that houses LAPS administration offices. Board members Joan Ahlers and Thelma Hahn were absent.
“The board took action on the intent to buy the building at the price that was listed,” said Assistant Superintendent Paula Dean. “They agreed to a price of $2.4 million.”
The district seems to be getting a discount on the property, which has an appraised value of $3.3 million, according to Dean.
“We agreed to the price because in this volatile market, price could change,” Dean said.
Superintendent Gene Schmidt said that the opportunity to move into the (Elmo) CdeBaca building is a “real positive” for the district.
“It’s an opportunity to have a nice, quality building that’s move-in ready and that meets the needs of our administrative team,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt said that when LAPS was shopping for a place to house its offices, several sites were looked at.
