Except for the crows, everyone seems to have enjoyed the wide variety of scarecrows propped up against light poles along Central Avenue. The annual Scarecrow Contest, sponsored by the Los Alamos Arts Council, featured everything from Salvador Dali to a headless guitarist. The community’s creativity resulted in numerous awards.Winners received a certificate and Chamber bucks. The Art Center at Fuller Lodge received Best Overall Entry for “Hello Dali.” Executive Director John Werenko explained the Art Center and the arts council staff work closely together and support each other, therefore, they will participate in each other’s events. He said the theme was the artist Salvador Dali, which was continued from a benefit dinner the Art Center staff held in September. Board members Midge Kilgour and Susannah Smith worked on the project. Their work paid off. “I’m amazed,” she said. “It’s fabulous. It is the first scarecrow I ever made.” However, Kilgour said, she is an artist. She added Smith is an artist, too.
