Santa Fe Pro Musica Presents the Szymanowski String Quartet

Date:
02/25/2012 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Enjoy the elegant but warm sound of the Szymanowski String Quartet on February 25 at 6pm at the St. Francis Auditorium at the New Mexico Museum of Art, 107 West Palace in Santa Fe.

The evening begins with the Capriccio in E Minor by Felix Mendelssohn, followed by the much beloved String Quartet No.8 in E Minor by Ludwig van Beethoven, the second of his three Razumovsky String Quartets.

Next up is J. S. Bach’s Vor deinen Thron tret’ ich hiermit (Before your Throne I now appear), also called the “deathbed chorale.”   This work, published as an appendix to Bach’s Art of the Fugue, is a work of exquisite proportion and detail.

The evening concludes with String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor, an impassioned and powerful composition, written by Felix Mendelssohn after hearing of the death of his sister Fanny.
