Santa Fe Opera announces 2012 five-opera season

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The Santa Fe Opera will open its 2012 season with a production of Puccini's "Tosca," which was last performed by the opera company in 1994.

General director Charles MacKay announced next season's repertory on Tuesday.

The company will for the first time perform Bizet's "The Pearl Fishers," Rossini's "Maometto II," and Szymanowski's "King Roger."

There also will be a new production of Strauss' "Arabella," which was last done by the Santa Fe Opera in 1997.

The 2012 season runs from June 29 through Aug. 25.

In the current season, the opera opens July 1 with "Faust" by Charles Gounod.
