Father and son tied for the top prediction in the first Atomic City Roadrunners pace race of the 2010 season.
The Roadrunners kicked off their season Tuesday evening along the 1.5-mile Diamond Dr./Sandia Dr./Trinity Dr. loop.
Ted Romero and his son Daniel finished Tuesday’s race missing their predicted finish times by just 6 seconds each. Another Romero, Alexander, was the fastest male finisher on the course (10 minutes, 44 seconds), followed by Daniel Romero (10:57) and Ted Romero (11:16).
Other top predictors at Tuesday’s race were Karen Thorn, who missed her finish time by 19 seconds, and John Erickson, who was 27 seconds off.
Deidre Witherell was the fastest female finisher on the course (11:59). Marin Kelly finished with a time of 18:23 and Christine Kelly had a time of 18:26.
The next pace race will be held starting 6 p.m. Tuesday on the trail just north of Brewer Arena behind the North Mesa horse stables.
The usual 1- and 3-mile courses will be used.
