The Roswell Coyote offense was howling in the finale of the Louie Cernicek boys soccer tournament Saturday.
The Coyotes scored four times in the first half of the tournament championship game against the Los Alamos Hilltoppers Saturday night and tallied another pair of goals in the second half to win in decisive fashion, 6-2, and take the tournament title.
Roswell’s Fernando Sanchez spearheaded an impressively coordinated attack, picking up a hat trick and dishing out a pair of assists, while three other Coyotes also got in the scoring column.
Los Alamos tried to make a game of it after Roswell went up 4-0 in just 22 minutes. Collin Stone struck from the left side at the 24-minute mark and Eric Schmalz picked up a goal off a direct kick just five minutes later to halve the Coyote lead.
But the Coyotes (5-0) would go on to outshoot Los Alamos (2-2) by a 3-to-1 margin Saturday.
Sanchez was named Offensive Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while Roswell fullback Jonathan Campos was Defensive MVP.
Schmalz, Brandon Hodges and goalkeeper Chris Parker were named to the All-Tournament Team for the Hilltoppers.
