VAN LYSSEL – Ronald Mark Van Lyssel died suddenly May 6, 2008, at the age of 49. He was born on Nov. 24, 1958, in Los Alamos, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Martin and Billie Jo Van Lyssel.
He was a 1977 LAHS graduate. In 1978, he and his brother, Ross Van Lyssel, became the proud owners of the Exxon Service Station (now Shell Service Station) on the corner of Oppenheimer and Trinity, in which he and his brother have been in business for 30-plus years. In 1987, Ron went into Clement & Benner and won the heart of his blue-eyed beauty, Paula Mattys, who has remained by his side for 21 years.
Ron was charismatic, proud, loyal and adventurous. He took Paula on many road trips with a road map and no destination in mind, just to visit a new place or see a new ghost town. Ron was a super uncle to his nephews (Ken, Robert) and his nieces (Mindy, Shannen and Loni) and made life fun and exciting for us all.
