The Goddard Rockets and the Los Lunas Tigers square off for the state Class 4A football championship tonight.
Goddard, the No. 1 seed and Los Lunas, the No. 2 seed, will play at Los Lunas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. All Class 2-5 state championship games, which will be played this weekend, can be streamed live at nmaafilms.tv.
The Rockets (11-0) and the Tigers (12-0) were the only two undefeated 4A teams in the 2012 regular season. The Tigers scored a whopping 550 points this season (45.8 points per game) and allowed only 86 points, including shutting out five opponents.
In fact, this season, the only team that scored more than 8 points against Los Lunas was Aztec, which the Tigers defeated 24-20 in last week’s 4A semifinal round.
Goddard, meanwhile defeated Moriarty and Belen in the playoffs by a combined score of 69-14 to reach the championship game for the fifth time in the past seven years. Goddard won back-to-back titles in 2008 and 2009 and finished as the runner-up behind Aztec, losing a nail-biting finale 28-27 last year.
Los Lunas has never won a state football title.
