SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — Highway crews are preparing for a winter storm approaching New Mexico.
State Transportation Secretary Gary Giron (Hee ROHN') says snow plows and crews are ready to hit the highway as soon as the storm rolls in.
The National Weather Service says the winter storm is expected to hit portions of western and northern New Mexico Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.
Heavy snowfall, strong to damaging winds and very cold temperatures are expected.
Giron says crews will work 12-hour shifts, 24 hours a day to monitor conditions and to plow, sand and salt roads as necessary.
He says snow-removal operations will be coordinated with state police and other law enforcement agencies.
