ESPANOLA, N.M. (AP) — A northern New Mexico sheriff's deputy is facing drunken driving charges after authorities say he was behind the wheel at three times the legal limit.
KOAT-TV reports that Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Deputy Isaac Martinez was arrested Sunday. Authorities say the recently promoted lieutenant had a blood-alcohol-content of .27 after being stopped in the Chimayo area on Country Road 94.
The legal limit in New Mexico is .08.
Officials say Martinez is on leave and will be fired if found guilty.
It was unclear if he had an attorney.
Sheriff Tommy Rodella says Martinez let down everyone in the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office.
