In 1846, 500 members of the Mormon Battalion marched approximately 2,000 miles to fight in the Mexican-American War. Today, that journey is being taken again and the marchers will be arriving in Santa Fe Saturday. In recognition, there will be at Mormon Battalion Event Saturday at the Stake Center and Los Alamos residents are invited.
Activities for the event include a display of artifacts and information from the ancestors of the Santa Fe Stake members who experienced the original Mormon Battalion Trek from 3-5 p.m. A pioneer dinner and campfire will be held at 5 p.m. and two marchers on the current trek will speak at 6 p.m. Participants should bring their own plates, utensils, cups, camp chairs and blankets. It is also recommended to bring a jacket and dessert to share.
If planning to attend this event, please RSVP to Lowell Christensen, 672-1170.
