The following restaurant inspection reports were provided by the New Mexico Environment Department.

Española

McDonald’s, 618 N. Riverside Dr.
Date inspected: Dec. 6, complaint
Violations: One high-risk violation for inadequate cooking/cooling — investigated complaint regarding raw chicken nugget served to customer. NMED representative and manager confirmed/witnessed the raw nuggets in box brought in to NMED. Staff was shocked. Discussed possible mishandling/cooking by removing from fryer (interruption of cooking process). NMED and manager observed fry cook fry nuggets and observed process, which is timed. Potentially possible that wrong fry basket was removed early from the frying process. It is possible that multiple baskets were in operation and removed early. Manager to address cooking/frying times with staff. Violation corrected. Temps OK, nuggets holding at 156-170 degrees. Refrigeration OK.
Note: Facility is old. Needs paint, sealing of cracks in backroom/storage area. Overall clean facility.

Violations: Two moderate-risk violations for contaminated equipment — food utensils and silverware were not properly sanitized. Stored in soiled and dirty container. Top of ice machine was dirty, not cleaned. One low-risk violation for administration — NMED food service permit must be posted in conspicuous place.

Notes: Band saw has food product, must be cleaned. Need test strips for sanitizer. Some ceiling peeling, needs to be installed or repaired. Ceiling in slicer area needs to be installed. Two-inch air gap needed on three-compartment sink.

One low-risk violation for poor personal hygiene — provide effective hair restraints for all food service employees.

Notes: Two three-door under counter units have been bought and these have replaced the ones that were not holding proper cold holding temperatures. Food temperatures in these units are good.

Notes: Soap and paper towel dispensers have been mounted on the wall by the hand sink in kitchen. The wall by the dry storage area has been cleaned. Ketchup mess has been removed. Kitchen looks clean. Provide air fresheners for the restrooms, since there are no windows.

Violations: One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — can opener was not properly cleaned and sanitized after use. One low-risk violation for storage — improper storage of single-service cups. Plastic cups stored in soiled, not clean container.
