The following restaurant inspection reports were provided by the New Mexico Environment Department.

Española

Chili’s Bar and Grill, Riverside Drive
Date inspected: Oct. 18
Violations: Two high-risk violations, one for improper holding — rice, shrimp holding at 79 degrees, 56 degrees. Staff in process of cooling with ice. Corrected. One violation for contaminated equipment — can opener dirty, still in use. Advised manager, removed. Corrected. Two moderate-risk violations, one for contaminated equipment — cutting boards scarred up, need table replaced or resurfaced. One violation for other — some staff not wearing hair net, hair restraints, caps. Repeat violation. Two low-risk violations, one for floors/walls/ceilings — food debris on floor, wall corner. One violation for storage — box food on floor in walk-ins. Note, facility very busy during inspection.
Notes: Facility doing overall OK. High-risk violations corrected on site. Water heater having problems, but hot water was present during inspection.

Home Run Pizza, 1031 N. Riverside Dr.
Date inspected: Oct. 16, opening
Violations: None
Notes: Floors/tile, tile coming apart, need repair. Plan to repair/replace within one year, max. Walls need cleaning, painting, need repair. Plan to repair within three months, max. Ceilings need painting, need repair. Plan to repair within three months, max. Pizza boxes should not be stored in bathroom. Facility needs maintenance, repair and attention. Work needed in facility. Insure city requirements met prior to opening. Approved to open with conditions listed above.

Notes: Peanut recon/recall, 140 bags football, one bag hunting, removed from sale. No Independence bag.

Date inspected: Oct. 19

Notes: Remember to wear hair restraint, hair net, cap, hat in kitchen. Facility doing very well. Overall very clean facility.

Hilltop House Restaurant and Catering
Date inspected: Oct. 16
Violations: Two high-risk violations, one for contaminated equipment — slicer and potato dicer has food product. Can opener has food product on it. Must clean after each use. Corrected. One violation for storage — medication, food powder near baking platters/pans. Corrected, removed. One moderate-risk violation for administration — permit not posted. One low-risk violation for floors/walls/ceilings — flooring in kitchen area has food product, needs cleaning.

Los Alamos Middle School and Catering, 2101 Hawk Dr.
Date inspected: Oct. 16
Violations: One high-risk violation for contaminated equipment — sanitizer < 100 ppm. Corrected. One moderate-risk violation for administration — invalid permit posted. Permit payment past due. One low-risk violation for ventilation/lighting — light bulb is out in walk-in freezer.

Smith’s Deli, 535 Central Ave.
Date inspected: Oct. 16
Violations: Two high-risk violations, one for improper holding — cold-holding at 52 degrees, several items thrown out. Thermostat was turned down, temperature needed to be 42 degrees. One violation for poor personal hygiene — food product inside hand wash sink. Corrected. One moderate-risk violation for improper holding — need thermometers.

Violations: Three moderate-risk violations, one for improper holding — need thermometers inside display refrigerators and inside walk-in. Two violations for contaminated equipment — food particles along the railing of the display case. Must clean; cutting boards that have deep grooves must be replaced.

Backroads Pizza, LLC, 1807 Second St.

Notes: Facility looks very clean and organized. Hand sink has fingernail brush — good. Label food items.

The Bishop’s Lodge Restaurant, 1297 Bishop’s Lodge Road
Date inspected: Oct. 22
Violations: Two moderate-risk violations for contaminated equipment — the cutting boards in the kitchen looked stained. Replace all the cutting boards in the kitchen. Call inspector when the boards have been replaced; the ice machine surface is rusted. Clean. Two low-risk violations for floors/walls/ceilings — the employees’ restroom toilet bowl is dirty. Clean; the walls by the three-compartment sink are not sealed with non-absorbent material. Also, the wall underneath the counter in the dish room is cracked and has a hole. Seal. The ceiling in the main kitchen area is rusted and stained. Clean and repaint.

Violations: One moderate-risk violation for animals/vermin/openings — the side door has an opening/gap underneath. One low-risk violation for ventilation/lighting — the light bulb in the walk-in cooler does not have shield. Cover this light bulb.

Sushi Land East, 60 E. San Francisco St.
Date inspected: Oct. 15
Violations: Two high-risk violations for poor personal hygiene — hand sink is being used to store dirty dishes and utensils. Can only be used for hand washing. Corrected; soap was not available for the hand sink in the kitchen. Corrected. Three moderate-risk violations, two for contaminated equipment — ice machine surfaces and refrigeration surfaces are filthy. The little toaster in front kitchen area is rusted, full of grease. Clean; one of the reach-in refrigeration units is not ANSI/NSF certified. Must replace within six months or remove and place food items in other refrigeration units. One low-risk violation for storage — bag of rice was stored on the floor in the dry storage room.
