Cariños Charter School, 116 Calle Espinoza
Violations: One high-risk violation for contaminated equipment — sanitizer at <50 ppm. Corrected.

Violations: Two moderate-risk violations, one for improper holding — no thermometer inside walk-in refrigerator; one for contaminated equipment — soda machine dispensers were not cleaned and sanitized.

Violations: Two low-risk violations, one for floors/walls/ceilings — restroom doors not self-closing. One for Ventilation/lighting — exterior doors left open, not screened to prevent entry of pests. Unprotected lights in baking area.

Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge, 1615 Old Pecos Trail
Date inspected: Sept. 14
Violations: One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — side of stove and oven has grease accumulation. Degrease more often. Three low-risk violations, one for administration — expired permit posted. Post new, current permit. One for floors/walls/ceilings — cooler floor has particles accumulated. One for storage — boxes of food and one juice container on cooler floor. Bare wood backsplash and paint worn on dry storage shelves.

Date inspected: Sept. 13
Violations: None
Notes: Undercounter refrigeration air  temp. at 35 degrees. Barbecue chicken on grill at 173 degrees, on steam table at 157 degrees. The three-compartment sink is not in use at time of inspection, but chlorine bleach is available. Hot water was available for the sink (hand) and the three-compartment sink. Food permit expires at the end of the month.

Cesar Chavez Elementary School, 6251 Jaguar Dr.
Date inspected: Sept. 13
Violations: Two high-risk violations, one for improper holding — cucumber and tomato salad in cooler at 59 degrees, ingredients not pre-chilled as required. Destroyed, corrected. One for contaminated equipment — no hot water spray  dishwasher sanitizing test kit, not checked daily. Tested, passed, properly sanitizing test strip attached. Four moderate-risk violations, one for animals/vermin/openings — Milk crates held outdoors in corner, may harbor pests. Three for plumbing/waste disposal — trash bin has food particles and liquid around outside and inside, has foul odor. Open lid. Some flies in area. Two low-risk violations, one for floors/walls/ceilings — wall above wash sink has deterioration, mop sink, also. One for ventilation/lighting — inadequate lighting in freezer walk-in.

Violations: Five high-risk violations, one for unsafe sources — food items not dated in refrigerator over 24 hours; one for improper holding — beans at 48 degrees, chicharones and green chile at 80 degrees, rice at 70 degrees; carne adovada at 43 degrees; one for poor personal hygiene — no paper towels at either hand sink; two for storage — raw meat stored above ready-to-eat foods in cooler. Corrected; thawing raw meat in bucket in mop sink below broom and mop; food items and mixer held in bathroom on floors, as per complaint on file in office. Two moderate-risk violations, one for contaminated equipment — inadequate drain board space, pots and pans in hand sink. One for poor personal hygiene — hand sink blocked by food items. Two low-risk violations, one for storage — frozen food items held on freezer floor; one for ventilation/lighting — inadequate light in cooler and kitchen (vent hood lights).

Piccolino Restaurant, 2890 Agua Fria St.
Date inspected: Sept. 14
Violations: One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — ice scoops were placed on top of ice machine. Place properly in the assigned, clean containers. Also, the sanitizer is not going through the tube to dispense in dishwasher. Sanitizer is available. Corrected. Auto-Chlor came and serviced during the inspection. One low-risk violation for floors/walls/ceilings — one of the ceiling tiles is coming loose, some areas stained. Fix. Please replace the dish baskets, they look old and stained.

Yin Yang Chinese Restaurant, 418 Cerrillos Road
Date inspected: Sept. 10, complaint
Notes: Hot food items on the steam table at time of inspection: moo goo gai Pan at 179 degrees, sesame chicken at 167 degrees and vegetable lo mein at 174 degrees. Manager was aware of the incident. He told inspector that he forgot to turn on the steam table and when the complainant told him about foods not being hot enough, he took the foods and warmed them in the microwave. Manager was told to make sure the steam tables are turned on everyday. Someone should check on that before placing hot food items on the steam table.
