The following restaurant inspection reports were provided by the New Mexico Environment Department.

Los Alamos

Bandelier Grill Restaurant/catering, 11 Sherwood Blvd.
Date inspected: Aug. 17
Violations: Five high-risk violations, two for improper holding — prep refrigerator in grill area has a temperature of 54 degrees on top and below; two violations for contaminated equipment — slicer and dicer has food product on it. Must be cleaned after each use; no sanitizer available. One violation for plumbing/waste disposal — need two-inch air gap for pipe draining into floor drain in bar area. Two moderate-risk violations for contaminated equipment — food items on floor, floor needs to be cleaned; refrigerator is not NSF, must be removed, can’t use. One low-risk violation for poor personal hygiene — food items stored directly on floor.

Fabulous 50s mobile unit
Date inspected: Aug. 14, opening
Violations: None
Status of establishment: Approved, no follow-up required.

Fabulous 50s Diner, 1325 Trinity Dr.
Date inspected: Aug. 17
Violations: One high-risk violation for plumbing/waste disposal — owners have a sewer pit where the drain pipe drops into. There’s a foot air gap between. There are two pumps and check valves. This acts as their two-inch air gap. Corrected.
Status of establishment: Approved, no follow-up required.

McDonald’s, 1247 Trinity Dr.
Date inspected: Aug. 17
Violations: One high-risk violation for improper holding — small salad refrigerator was at 53 degrees. Two moderate-risk violations, one for improper holding — need thermometer inside walk-in prep refrigerator and freezer. One for contaminated equipment — seals need replacing around beverage air refrigerator. One low-risk violation for floors/walls/ceilings — water on floor, needs to be cleaned.
Status of establishment: Approved, follow-up Sept. 1.

Española

Wal-Mart, 1610 Riverside Dr.
Date inspected: Aug. 20, other
Notes: Recall on Romaine lettuce. Spoke with Isidro Savala, who removed three cases of product on Aug. 19 and two cases of product on Aug. 20. Wal-Mart was aware of recall prior to NMED notification.

Santa Fe

Bert’s La Taqueria
Date inspected: Aug 17, closing
Status of establishment: Closed. Owner Fernando stated that they were closing at said location and moving to another facility.

Café Greco, 233 Canyon Road
Date inspected: Aug 16, opening
Violations: None
Status of establishment: Approved, OK to operate, issue permit.

The Compound, 653 Canyon Road
Date inspected: Aug. 16, complaint
Violations: One high-risk violation for inadequate cooking/cooling — hot meat items just cooked were placed in the walk-in cooler. Corrected. Cool on ice bath at room temperature for four hours.
Notes: Source of duck is from approved source, Kale Hudson Valley Foie Gras in New York. Leafy greens’ source is Cal Organic in California. Ten orders of duck were ordered on this day and no one else called in sick. Cannot determine where this illness came from.

El Farolito Bed and Breakfast, 514 Galisteo St.
Date inspected: Aug. 17
Violations: One high-risk violation for contaminated equipment — Dishwasher tested 0 ppm, not sanitizing. Must make manual addition. Provide written notice by Aug. 24  of corrective action. One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — no sanitizer test kit for QAT surface sanitizer. Two low-risk violations, one for floors/walls/ceilings — toilet room door not self-closing. One for storage — utensils not held protected from consumer.
Status of establishment: Approved, no follow-up required.

Hot Rod Café, The Flea Market at Santa Fe Downs
Date inspected: July 27, other
Comments: Plan review/consult. Not ready for permit. Two-compartment sink and hand wash sink is in.  Laundry tub to be provided ASAP before third comp. of dish sink. Will be hauling potable water and hauling wastewater. Water supply consists of 350 feet of PVC and garden hose to freeze-proof hydrant. Non-NSF materials, cross-connection not acceptable. Refrigerator/freezer is home type, not acceptable. Must be ANSI. Two hoods, one home-type, one galvanized, not acceptable.

Hot Rod Café, The Flea Market at Santa Fe Downs
Date inspected: Aug. 16, opening
Violations: Three high-risk violations for plumbing/waste disposal — potable water supply to be verified by District II. Install backflow prevention device to water supply. Water supply must be pressurized. Must have water until supply can be verified and/or backflow prevention device is installed. One moderate-risk violation for improper holding — use stem thermometers to check food temps and calibrate often. One low-risk violation for floors/walls/ceilings — group and seal floor tiles ASAP.
Status of establishment: Approved, OK to open.

Jambo Café, 2010 Cerrillos Road
Date inspected: Aug. 10
Violations: One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — cutting board in kitchen (long one) is old and stained. Sand or replace. Generally, kitchen looks clean. Two low-risk violations for ventilation/lighting — vents above exhaust hood are dusty. Clean. Light bulb in the walk-in cooler does not have a shield. Cover.

Jambo Café Catering, 2010 Cerrillos Road

Violations: None
Notes: Uses same kitchen as Jambo Restaurant kitchen as the commissary. Catering van has the needed equipment for catering. Chafing dishes, Cambro equipment.

McDonald’s, 4001 Calle Lucia
Date inspected: Aug. 18, follow-up
Notes: Submit HAACP monitoring plan for the secondary shelf-life foods.

McDonald’s, 1621 Pacheco St.
Date inspected: Aug. 16, complaint
Violations: No violations were noted regarding this complaint. The napkins were checked and nothing was found. Management told inspector that cameras are everywhere, watching the employees, so no employee can do that.
Notes: Facility is sprayed monthly for pest control. Employees have hair restraints. Fax pest control receipt for last month in the office.

Palace Restaurant and Saloon, 142 W. Palace
Date inspected: Aug. 9
Violations: One moderate-risk violation for contaminated equipment — the QAT test strips are not available for the three-compartment sink and the bar sink. Three low-risk violations, two for floors/walls/ceilings — the kitchen floors in main kitchen are being stained by floor mop. The wall by the prep counter across from walk-in cooler in basement does not have non-absorbent materials. Seal. One for ventilation/lighting — the lighting in the basement dry storage area is not adequate. Very dark in this area. Provide lighting here within one month.
