President Steven Girrens of the Los Alamos Board of Education presented a resolution Thursday evening recognizing a partnership between the schools and Los Alamos County.
Girrens made the presentation during a special school board meeting, open to the public and attended by one person, inside the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.
“The Los Alamos School Board and the Los Alamos Public School District recognizes that forging a strong partnership with the County of Los Alamos is beneficial to the entire community of Los Alamos,” he said. “The board and County Council have entered into a partnership to continue to strengthen our community in becoming the best it can be for our residents. The strength and attractiveness of a community depends upon the quality of its schools.”
The resolution adds that the quality of a school district is defined by excellent teachers, strong instructional programs and modern facilities available to its students.
Short- and long-term collaborative planning and support between the schools and the county are marks of a functional, healthy community.
The board unanimously adopted the resolution, which states the schools and county assert that the schools’ bond election must pass and that the school tax rate must be maximized to support capital-renewal projects for the schools.
