RELC completes construction project

Redeemer Evangelical Church has undergone many transitions in the past 30 years. The latest change has resulted in a new building at 2000 Diamond Dr.
In the early 1970s, Grace Lutheran Church closed down and the property was sold to Ed Grothus, which became part of the “Black Hole.”
The congregation disbanded and members moved on to other churches. One such church was Immanuel Lutheran Church in Santa Fe.  
In 1999, Immanuel Lutheran Church voted to lay the groundwork for planting a new congregation of the Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod in Los Alamos County. In January 2003, lay lead services began with Pastor Douglas Escue of Immanuel Lutheran Church traveling from Santa Fe once a month to administer the sacrament of Holy Communion.
On April 25, 2003, Immanuel Lutheran Church purchased land at 2000 Diamond Dr. in Los Alamos. On Sept. 7, 2003, formal services were led every Sunday afternoon by Pastor Escue in the side chapel of the United Church in Los Alamos.  
In February 2004, Rev. Mark Larson, Dr. Erich Helge, Mr. Bernie Braunschweig and Mr. Dan Bacon led mission development and financial workshops. On Dec. 5, 2004, a total of $300,980 was pledged through a three year Sustained Giving Stewardship Emphasis program, along with $232,000 through a Jean Elder/Elsie Seek memorial gift.
