Former 3rd District Rep. Bill Redmond of Los Alamos is the state’s newly elected GOP treasurer. He was elected Saturday during a New Mexico Central Committee meeting in Albuquerque.
Longtime GOP leader JoAnn Johnson, also of Los Alamos, nominated Redmond to the two-year post.
“It was my pleasure to place Congressman Bill Redmond in nomination for treasurer,” she said. “He served the people of New Mexico as the only Republican to be elected to the U.S. Congress from the 3rd congressional district. He continues to serve the Republican Party by helping candidates at all levels, president to local races, and works diligently to find ways to reach more voters, get them involved and get them to the polls. He carries on his work even between election cycles.”
During an interview Monday, Redmond explained why he accepted the statewide position.
“For the last eight years I’ve had Republicans all over the state asking me to run here and to serve there,” he said.
He’s busy operating his residential property appraisal business, Appraisals by Bill Redmond, and he said the state treasurer position requires a smaller time commitment.
