On Aug. 22, Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church broke ground on its new church building at 2000 Diamond Drive.
The architecture firm for the project is Mullen Heller, which also designed the county animal shelter and the new White Rock Visitor Center Complex.
The building construction is being performed by Klinger Constructors, LLC and will consist of a sanctuary, meeting area, kitchen and side rooms.
Construction is expected to be complete this winter.
Redeemer has been meeting in Los Alamos since 2003 and was started as a mission church from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Santa Fe.
Redeemer became an independent congregation in January 2008 and currently worships in White Rock in the office space southeast of Metzger’s Do It Best.
Redeemer’s pastor, Rev. Brian Kachelmeier, was born and reared in Los Alamos and received his Master of Divinity from Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
Worship services are at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays, with Sunday school and adult Bible study following the service.
Redeemer is a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
