Editor’s Note: This story is the first of several that the district will be releasing.
In January, Los Alamos voters will be asked to approve a $40 million school bond issue, which will give the district necessary funds to embark on a 20-year plan for rebuilding schools.
This 20-Year Plan was developed by the LAPS District Facilities Committee and is designed to address Los Alamos Public School facility renewal needs.
Schools must be rebuilt and pride in school structures is necessary in order to enhance the educational environment for students. The mail-out ballots will be sent out in mid January and will be due by Jan. 27.
Voter registration can be done at the county offices on Central Avenue.
The LAPS Bond Committee has developed a five-month plan to present relevant facts to the public so that voters can make informed decisions. Such a plan requires financing, and the committee is appealing for donations.
The campaign will use these donations alone because it will not use any school monies to fund this effort. Contact Steve Girrens or any school board member, if interested in donating. Understanding the importance of this initiative, LANB has generously set the ball rolling by donating $5,000.
