Readers get artistic

Winners of the annual Mesa Public Library bookmark contest were recently chosen. The contest was in celebration of Children’s Book Week in May. The winners in categories ranging from kindergarten to high school are:

• Kindergarten: Christina Diaz, age 6;

• First grade: Angela Deng, age 6, and Kenneth Inbody, age 7;

• Second grade: Patsy Hensley, age 8;

• Third grade: Alex Delano, age 9;

• Fourth grade: Lauren Harris, age 10;

• Fifth grade: Margaret Doebl, age 11;

• Sixth grade: R. Therese Olivas, age 12; and

• High school: Christine Chung, 15, Jane Duan, 15, Andrew Li, 15, and David Li, 16.

Entries were evaluated on encouraging people to read, creativity and artistic merit. Each winner received a $10 gift card to Otowi Station, purchased by the Friends of the Library. Copies of the winning bookmarks are available at Youth Services and at White Rock Branch Library. Entries are displayed at Mesa Public Library’s  Youth Services art gallery till the end of July.
