Potential Winter Storm Takes Aim at Northern New Mexico

-A A +A

POTENTIAL WINTER STORM ON THE WAY FOR PARTS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO LATER THIS WEEK...

ACCUMULATING SNOW WILL RETURN TO PARTS OF NORTHERN NEW MEXICO BEGINNING LATE THURSDAY AND CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT SNOW IMPACTS ARE EXPECTED IN THE SAN JUAN AND SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS... AS WELL PORTIONS OF THE NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS AND FAR NORTHEAST PLAINS THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING.

IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW... A FEW THUNDERSTORMS MAY DEVELOP NEAR THE NEW MEXICO/TEXAS STATE LINE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AS GULF MOISTURE ADVANCES NORTHWARD AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING STORM.

BREEZY TO WINDY CONDITIONS WILL ALSO IMPACT PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. GUSTS OF 40 MPH OR GREATER WILL BE POSSIBLE... ESPECIALLY IN AND NEAR THE SOUTH CENTRAL MOUNTAINS.

HIGH TEMPERATURES FRIDAY WILL DROP TO 5 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW SEASONAL AVERAGES. THIS WILL BE A BIG CHANGE FROM THE RECENT STRETCH OF ABOVE AVERAGE WARMTH.

THE WEATHER CHANGE WILL ARRIVE AS A STORM SYSTEM MOVING INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST STRENGTHENS AS IT DROPS TOWARD THE SOUTHEAST TONIGHT. THE STORM SYSTEM WILL INTENSIFY NEAR OR JUST WEST OF THE FOUR CORNERS THURSDAY... BEFORE SLOWLY SLIDING EASTWARD THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY.
