A 25-year-old Los Alamos woman is under investigation for apparently giving birth to a baby boy at her parent’s Barranca Mesa home on Friday and leaving him in a closet for three days.
Los Alamos Police report that it appears Katrina Vigil gave birth and did not report it or seek medical care for herself or the newborn.
“Emergency Room doctors at the Los Alamos Medical Center contacted us Tuesday to report a possible child abuse case,” Capt. Randy Foster said. “They informed us that the infant, Grey Vigil, was born on Friday at his mother and grandparent’s residence at 525 Navajo.”
The grandparents are Robert and Holly Vigil.
“It appears Katrina hid the existence of the baby from her parents until Holly Vigil discovered him in the closet on Monday,” Foster said. “On Tuesday, Holly contacted the hospital for an appointment to have the newborn seen by doctors. Doctors said the baby was ‘in severe medical distress’ when it arrived at the hospital and was air lifted to UNMH.”
LAPD lead investigator Sgt. Fred Rascon said this morning that the baby is currently listed as being “technically stable but the diagnosis is day-to-day because he has some serious medical issues.”
