EDGEWOOD, N.M. (AP) — Authorities have identified the two men who were killed in a small plane crash near Golden.
The state Office of the Medical Investigator identified the pilot as Randall Rupert, 42, of Edgewood and the passenger as Mathew Porter, 42, also of Edgewood. The OMI used fingerprints and dental records to confirm their identities.
State police say heavy snow was falling in the area Monday morning when firefighters received a call about a brush fire near N.M. 344 and N.M. 14 in Santa Fe County. They found the wreckage when they arrived.
Police say Rupert and Porter were daily air commuters from Edgewood to Los Alamos, where they both worked.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
CORRECTION: In an article in Tuesday’s Monitor on the plane crash, Dane KnowLton was mistakenly quoted as saying that he last saw Rupert on Friday. Rather, the statement should have been that he saw a plane at the airport on Friday and was told it was Rupert’s. Also, in the article, State Police spokesperson Peter Olson’s last name appears in error several times in the article as “Olsn.“
