READING – Phyllis Michel Reading, 77, died Jan. 1, 2008, in Mesa, Ariz., after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in Centralia, Wash., on July 25, 1930. She originally moved to Los Alamos, N.M., in 1948. She worked for the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Accounts-Payable section for more than 20 years. Following her retirement, one of Phyllis’s main goals was to find a warmer place to live.Her parents, Lawrence and Clo’t Sprague, preceded Phyllis in death. She is survived by her husband Ken Reading of Mesa, Ariz., her sons Weldon (Susie) and Wayne (Robin) Scoggins of Los Alamos, N.M., and her daughter Donna (Paul) McClure of Summerville, S.C. Phyllis also leaves behind five grandchildren Warren Scoggins of Los Alamos, N.M., Wendy Strohmeyer of San Diego, Calif., Jonathan, Andrew and Michel McClure of Summerville, S.C., and one great grandchild, Evan Strohmeyer of San Diego, Calif. Phyllis also had many friends who will miss her deeply.Phyllis and her husband were very involved in square-dancing, round-dancing and ballroom dancing. She was a member of the Mesa Senior Center.Donations may be made to the National Cancer Society.
