Across the world, people will be clicking their cameras to capture the beauty in their own communities.

Los Alamos will be joining in on this world wide photo walk, which will be held Saturday.

The local photo shoot will begin at 8 a.m. in front of Starbucks. Participants will be traveling from Fuller Lodge to Ashley Pond to take pictures.

When the walk is completed, images will be uploaded to a flickr site and one photographer will be selected to win Scott Kelby’s “The Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers.”

Additionally, a winner from the entire world-wide participants will be chosen to win a grand prize.

While the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) is sponsoring the world-wide event, the Los Alamos Multimedia Users Group is hosting the local walk.

It is the first time the event has been held.

Scott Valentine of Los Alamos Mulitmedia Users Group, explained he was interested in getting the local area involved because “basically I’ve been looking for an excuse to get people together to go take pictures and this seemed like a good opportunity.”

He explained the area around Fuller Lodge and Ashley Pond was selected as the location for the photo walk because of its access.

Plus, he said, the challenge in photography is to find something right in front of you to capture on camera.

Valentine encourages the community to participate in the event to “get a unique perspective on local imagery.”

Additionally, he noted a group of photographers showcase many different points of view, which is a big concept in photography. By being exposed to different points of view, Valentine said, people are encouraged to take photos in different ways.

The event is free and open to the public. However, pre-registration is perferred. Go to lammug.com to register.

In addition to a camera, it is recommended to bring comfortable walking shoes, a tripod and friends.
