Los Alamos High School announces that Charlotte Berg, Matthew Davenport, Justine Dombrowski, Victoria Hypes, Ariel Koh, Charles Mielke, Nathan Phillps and Jing Xie have been named Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program. A letter of commendation from the school and National Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, will be presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.

The following Los Alamos students are now attending Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo: Nickolis Martin, majoring in Exercise Science — Exercise Physiology Option, Susanna Lucido, majoring in Psychology. Nolan Bell, majoring in Sociology and Human Services.

The Santa Fe office of UBS Financial Services, 141 E. Palace Ave., announces the addition of two financial advisors, John and Mary Macukas, who recently relocated from the UBS branch in Norfolk, Va.
The Macukas’ are two of four principle partners of the Oracle Wealth Consulting Group, a team of professionals with more than 110 years combined diverse financial management experience. Their practice focuses on the financial needs of individuals and their families, foundations, family trusts and small businesses.
John Macukas joined UBS Financial Services in 2000 after more than 20 years in the music industry.
Mary Macukas joined UBS as Financial Advisor in 2008 after spending 20 years as a not-for-profit development professional where her work focused in the areas of charitable estate planning, major gift donations, and capital and endowment campaign management.

Emily Veenstra-Ott, a 2002 graduate from Los Alamos High School, was one of the presenters at the New Mexico Library Association conference in Los Alamos, “E-Books and Libraries:  An Overview and Issues.”   
Veenstra-Ott is a librarian with the University of New Mexico Libraries system. She graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with two bachelor’s degrees, a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Criminal Justice. She attended Vermont Law School and earned a master’s degree in Library Science from Texas Woman’s University. Veenstra-Ott can be reached for further information at 920-9899.
