Middle and high school students participated in Youth Programs this summer at Michigan Technological University.
Amanda Aikin of White Rock participated in the Mobile Robotics program and in the Aviation and Aerospace program. In the Youth Programs, middle school and high school students from across the nation and around the globe choose from more than 70 explorations in business, computing, engineering, humanities and social sciences, outdoor and environmental studies and science and technology. The students also got to experience a mini-version of college life, living in a full-service residence hall, eating in the dining hall, and enjoying the college town atmosphere.

Donald Davis of Los Alamos High School was selected to be a member of LEGO Education’s first educator-led advisory panel. Davis joined a group of 26 other educators from across the nation, who were instrumental in providing LEGO Education with feedback and suggestions on the use of LEGO Education classroom solutions. The first LEAP Conference was Aug. 9-11 in Atlanta, Ga.

Air Force Airman Brittany A. Nielsen graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Nielsen is the daughter of Eileen and Roy Nielsen of Los Alamos. She is a 2010 of Los Alamos High School.

Julian Dendy of Los Alamos recently completed a master’s degree in tropical conservation biology and environmental science at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Dendy is the son of Joel and Leslie Dendy of Los Alamos.

Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico announces that Meghan Maes has been awarded the Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $5,800 for the 2011-2012 school year. Maes of Los Alamos, attends The University of New Mexico and is one of 22 recipients of the Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship this year.

Kaitlyn Renee McCranie of Los Alamos graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in physiology from Seattle Pacific University.

Sarah Robinson of Los Alamos has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Assumption College. Assumption students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher to make the dean’s list.
