The Los Alamos Little Theatre presented a $1,000 scholarship check to Aidan Bradbury-Aranda at its annual meeting last month.
Bradbury-Aranda will attend the University of Southern California, where he was accepted into the School of Cinematic Arts. The Los Alamos High School graduate already has an established film production company and plans to be a filmmaker or film editor.
More than 4,200 undergraduate students at the University of Kansas earned honor roll distinction for the fall 2011 semester, including Maslyn Locke, of Los Alamos. Locke is a graduate of Los Alamos High School and is a junior in behavioral neuroscience and pre-design. She was named to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences 2012 spring honor roll.
This year the winner of the Stoddard education scholarship is Emily Lucero, who will attend New Mexico State University and plans to major in secondary math. Lucero’s outstanding grade point average and ACT scores, and her positive letters of recommendation from several teachers made her a candidate. The essay she wrote to the Stoddard Scholarship selection committee explaining why she chose education as her career was what tipped the scales in her favor. In her essay, Lucero indicated that she chose education because of “her love of children” and because she “believes that teachers are one of the most important tools to an individual’s success in education.”
