Michael Phelps of Los Alamos, has earned a degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Jeremy Robert Kasik, a 2008 graduate of Los Alamos High School, graduated with honors and distinction from the United States Naval Academy on May 29.
Following completion of a master’s degree from George Mason University, Kasik will attend the Navy Nuclear Power School, preparing him for his future in the Navy Nuclear Submarine program.

The following Los Alamos students recently graduated from Rice University:
Jason Grider of Los Alamos graduated with a bachelor’s in chemical engineering; Nicholas Tiee graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and cell biology; and Catherine Chen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. The Class of 2012 is the 99th graduating class in Rice’s history.

Two elementary school students from Los Alamos have received the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum’s award for best agricultural-themed entry for National History Day.
Katherine McClenahan and Ruby Selvage of Piñon Elementary earned the award at the National History Day state competition in Albuquerque recently. They competed in the Junior Group Performance category and the title of their skit is “Land Where Our Children Die: The Reactions and Reforms of the Dust Bowl.”
The two sixth-graders also placed first in the category and advance to the national competition this summer.
The New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum is located in Las Cruces and chronicles 3,000 years of farming, ranching and rural life in New Mexico through demonstrations, exhibits and interactive activities.
