DECORA, Iowa – Jessica Mietz, a 2008 graduate of Los Alamos High School, earned a varsity letter at the annual Luther College cross-country banquet last month.
During the 2011 season, Luther finished second at the Iowa Conference championships and went on to finish fifth at the NCAA Division-III Central Regional. The Norse received an at-large bid to the National Championships where they finished 23rd.
Luther’s appearance at the national championships was its 12th in school history and sixth time in the past eight years.
Luther is coached by Steve and Yarrow Pasche. During the seven years they have directed the women’s program, the Norse have won three Iowa Conference championships and finished second four times, captured three Central Regional titles and made five appearances at the national championships.
Mietz is the daughter of Don and Lisa Mietz of Los Alamos.
Located in Decorah, Luther College is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran church. The Norse compete in 10 men’s and nine women’s intercollegiate sports.
It is the tradition of the Luther cross-country teams that only seniors are presented letter awards.
