PEEC kicked off its Annual Fund Drive on Nov. 1, with a goal of raising $15,000 to support the costs of operating the nature center all year long and providing free or low cost nature programs to the community.
This year, PEEC is keeping track of donations through a “bearometer.” If the bear reaches its goal by Dec. 31, the bear will be able to hibernate for the winter.
PEEC has been serving the community of Los Alamos and its visitors since 2000, and the organization has grown immensely over the last 13 years.
In 2013, just through October, PEEC has served 4,500 school children, had 1,800 visits to Nature Playtimes, a weekly program for young children, and saw 4,800 participants of all ages in public programs.
Last year’s Annual Fund Drive raised over $12,000. This year the organization has challenged itself to raise $15,000.
Donations to the PEEC Annual Fund Drive help to support:
• Children’s Programs — PEEC hosts weekly free Nature Playtimes for preschoolers, monthly First Friday Forts, as well as a variety of free and low-cost children’s and family programs such as Family Summer Evenings, Eco Crafts, Journaling and much more. PEEC also provides thousands of hours of free lessons to Los Alamos Public School children through their partnership with LAPS.
