Normally, a 40th anniversary only comes once in a lifetime, but not for White Rock Baptist Church. Though it turned 40 last year, Pastor Chuck McCullough and his congregation decided to extend the festivities and celebrate again this year.
The whole community is invited to a parking lot block party at WRBC from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature games, food, bounce houses and a dunk tank. Members of the Atomic City Corvettes will show their cars and the fire department will bring a fire truck, as well.
“This is the second year that we’re having a party,” McCullough said, “this year we said it’s our second annual 40th anniversary.”
McCullough said that people drive by churches and almost don’t seem them unless they’re associated wit the church and he’s hoping to change that by inviting the community into his church.
“We’re people who are on a faith journey together. It’s about fellowship and exploring how to be Christian,” he said.
McCullough said because the church has so much space, he figured it would be an ideal place for a community event.
The event, which is free to the public, is being funded by WRBC and is estimated to have a price tag of approximately $3,500.
