The parking lot sale at Unitarian Universalist Church of Los Alamos is more than just an opportunity to make a few bucks or score some great items at bargain prices.

It is a chance to socialize with the community and spread awareness about the church.

“We’re an active church that wants to do more outreach,” said Robyn Schultz, parking lot sales coordinator. “It’s a good reason for people to clean out their houses.”

“It’s a great community building activity,” she added.

People get to know one another and become informed about the church.

Rev. John Cullinan agreed the sale serves multiple purposes. “It’s a great event for getting members of the church together, having fun and raising money for the church at the same time.”

A wide assortment of items will be for sale during the event. Shoppers can find household goods, appliances, toys and host of other things for sale.

“Just about anything,” will be available, Cullinan said.

The only things that will not be available are clothes and obsolete electronics. Items can be “gently used” and need to be in good condition. The deadline for making a donation is at 5 p.m. Aug. 28.

The deadline is a week away, but the donations have already been coming. Schultz said, “I have a garage full of stuff.”

What money is made from the event will go to a building capital fund that is for general improvements, Cullinan said.

Schultz added the sale has been held on and off for several years and typically raised about $2,000.

In addition to purchasing items, members of the community are invited to rent a space for a $20 donation. For more information, call Schultz at 662-9047. The sale will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Aug. 29 at the church, which is located at 1738 N. Sage St. in Los Alamos.
