Parasite fears shut down pool

Los Alamos officials say recent visitors to the pool were probably not infected

State health officials have shut down the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center because it may have been infected by a microscopic parasite.

Although there is no deadline to reopen the pool, Randy Smith, Los Alamos Recreation Division manager, said the staff needs to maintain the chlorine levels for a certain amount of time. Residents are encouraged to call the aquatic center Thursday morning for more information.
