Second annual Pajarito Trail Runs Festival will take place Oct. 11 at Pajarito Mountain Ski Area. The event will feature 10K and 15-mile trail races and post-race activities, kids’ runs and activities, and an opportunity to enjoy a display of fall colors.
Registration for 10K and 15-mile races is open until Oct. 10 at www.active.com. Check-in is from 8-8:45 a.m. the day of the race. The starting time for both runs will be 9 a.m. Registration for the 10K race costs $35 and $40 for the 15-mile race. Race entry fees include a T-shirt and aid station support, a raffle ticket and a goody bag.
The course follows a single track through mixed conifer and aspen forests up the east side of Pajarito Mountain, along the ridge and descends on the single track on the west side. The 10K race finishes at the lodge while the 15-mile course continues out and back on the Guaje Canyon Trail through Canada Bonita meadow to Guaje Canyon Overlook. There will be four well-stocked aid stations at 3, 6, 9 and 12 miles.
Kids fun runs will feature a 1-mile trail run and 100-yard dash. Donation for the kids’ races is $1 and children will receive a ribbon and a treat. Other activities for kids will include an activity center titled “Making things with nature,” a treasure hunt in a forest and face painting by Son-Shine Art.
There will be free post-race snack food for racers, post-race massage provided by Aimee Price, LMT, music by Tim Gallegos, Pro DJ and a generous raffle. Pajarito Caf will be open for lunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
