Regardless of your view, this is the time to go do your back-to-school shopping.
Today through Sunday there will be no gross receipts taxes charged on many school items.
And this is a great time to discover just how much of your school – and other – needs can be met right here at home.
There are some restrictions on the back-to-school gross receipts tax holiday and you need to be aware of them.
There are dollar limits on some tax-free items. School supplies for use in standard, general education classrooms are limited to $15 per item for tax-exempt status.
Clothing and shoes must be priced $100 or less per item to be tax-free. Desktop, laptop and notebook computers have to be priced $1,000 or less and related computer hardware must be $500 or less to be tax-exempt.
With the no-tax enticement, many shoppers wait for this weekend to pick up clothes, computers, shoes and school supplies.
Like the rest of the state, participating Los Alamos retailers are preparing for a surge in back-to-school shoppers this weekend.
From CB Fox to Village Arts to Brownell’s to Beall’s and many more, there are many options right here in Los Alamos to do your back to school shopping – and so much more.
