If there is one thing that Los Alamos is known for, it is innovative science. So it is a natural fit for our community to host a fair devoted to new scientific discoveries and inventions.
Kudos should go out to Los Alamos MainStreet for putting together the Next Big Idea fair this weekend.
The first instance of what the organizers hope will become an annual signature attraction is meant to showcase discoveries and inventions.
Hands-on exhibits for all-ages will take the stage downtown on Saturday. Artisans, craftspeople, researchers, inventors and entrepreneurs will have booths to exhibit their wares and ideas.
There will be a variety of activities for youth in a “Discovery Zone,” where participants can interact directly with science.
Also, the Bradbury Science Museum will facilitate workshops and competitions for children and adults. Gordons’ Concerts and the Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series will present the innovative jazz of the Pete Amahl Quartet at 11 a.m.
The day will end Saturday night at the Duane Smith Auditorium, with a musical performance by the group MASS Ensemble.
As well as bringing the Next Big Idea day to a spectacular conclusion, the concert will be the first to take place in the newly renovated Duane Smith Auditorium.
