Lads of Enchantment, a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, invites singers to join them in song. Besides the enjoyment of singing in harmony, their barbershop chorus and quartets experience the thrill of performing in the community. They meet at 7:15 pm on Thursdays at the United Church of Los Alamos, Graves Hall. Attendees will find their chapter meetings are well planned, musically satisfying and fun. Visitors are welcome.

The Los Alamos Community Winds invites all interested musicians to join its upcoming concerts. No audition is necessary, but proficiency on a wind or percussion instrument is required. The LACW rehearses from  7-9 p.m. Tuesdays. www.lacw.org.

The HillStompers hold weekly rehearsals at 7 p.m. Mondays at the United Church (no drill). Anyone who plays a marching band instrument is welcome, regardless of age or skill level. 661-7646.

Voices of Praise, a Christian choral ensemble for children and youth, ages 5 to 18, invites singers to join them. The Los Alamos Photography Club is hosting its 16th annual show Jan. 31-Feb. 26 at the Mesa Public Library. Photographers of any skill level (beginner, amateur, or professional) of high school age or older, who live or work in Los Alamos County, are eligible to enter. Los Alamos Liitle Theatre announces their production of Agatha Christie’s “Go Back for Murder.” Performances of “Go Back for Murder” are at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 14, 21, 22, 2011 and at 2 p.m. on Jan. 15, all at the Los Alamos Little Theatre, 1670 Nectar Street. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and are available for advance purchase at CB Fox and also at the door 45 minutes before each performance.

The White Rock Library’s Family Friendly Film Series presents “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole” at 7 p.m. today in the White Rock Town Hall.

A painting demonstration and gallery talk will be hosted by Mi Ra Won for ages 10 an dolder. Won is currently showing her work in the Mesa Art Gallery. The demonstration will be from 3:45-4:45 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms of Mesa Public Library.

The Fuller Lodge Art Center in Los Alamos is seeking emerging and established artisans interested in selling their art work through the Gallery Shop, to support local and regional artists.  For more information call 662-1635.


Mesa Public Library’s “Poetry Gatherings” is a series of evening poetry readings. The readings take place  at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the upstairs rotunda.  The next gathering will be today.


Los Alamos Fitness Center presents a lecture by Kent Pegg and JoAnn Lysne entitled, “Arthritis and Exercise” at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at Los Alamos Fitness Center. The lecture is part of the Los Alamos Fitness Center 2011 Lecture Series and is free to the public.
