A new 13,000 square-foot conference center opened Friday at the Ohkay Casino Resort Hotel, north of Española.“For the first time ever, Española now has an event center that can compete for local and regional events,” said Ron Lovato, chief executive officer of the Tsay Corporation. The board of directors of Tsay Corporation, a corporation owned by Ohkay-Owingeh, that built the center presented the building to its new owners at the opening ceremony. The site is expected to attract events including weddings, quinceañeras and anniversaries, as well as major business meetings and trade shows with room for up to 500 booths.Lovato said features of the new conference center include state-of-the-art audiovisual systems with portable sound systems and drop-down video screens, Wireless Internet connections and portable stages, bars, and dance floors that facilitate a wide range of room configurations.Lovato said that demand for special event space at the old casino “dome” prompted the decision to build the new conference center.
