Norman Henry Harry Riechman was born in Irvington, Ill. on May 11, 1924. He grew up on a farm with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. He joined the Air Corps at 19, stationed at an airbase near Lavenham in England. Following his discharge in 1945, Norm majored in political science and graduated with a BS degree from Westminster College, Fulton, Mo. He was present for the famous“Iron Curtain”address by Winston Churchill at the school in 1946, marking the beginning of the Cold War. Incidentally, from that same platform in 1992 Gorbachev announced the end of the Cold War.
